Active Nation awarded Together Fund grant to set up new parkrun for Lincoln

Active Nation awarded Together Fund grant to set up new parkrun for Lincoln

Active Nation, Lincoln have been awarded a £5000 grant from Sport England's Together Fund to set up a new parkrun in the north of Lincoln.

Active Nation Lincoln, who run Yarborough Leisure Centre, have been working with parkrun to set up a new event in their grounds. Active Nation have a route that has been signed off and a bank of volunteers ready to support the event.

The Together Fund grant, which has been distributed to Active Nation by Active Lincolnshire, will cover the £4,000 parkrun franchise registration that includes everything you need to run a parkrun including a defibrillator. Additional money will support the purchase of equipment, first aid training for volunteers and marketing in the local community.

Parkrun is a free event where you can jog, run, walk, wheel and take part as a family and provides a great way to start people on the pathway of being more physically active. There is also the option to volunteer and be part of the local community.

Yarborough Leisure Centre is situated in an area within the top 10% most deprived IMD decile. Active Nation and parkrun identified there was a lack of provision in this area of the city. This new parkrun will enable people and families from lower income groups in the local area to participate in parkrun without having transport costs to get there. There will also be facilities for participants to register and print their barcodes off free of charge, ensuring everyone can take part regardless of access to IT equipment. Posters and marketing will be widespread throughout the local community advertising the family friendly parkrun and this free printing service.

The route is also fully accessible to wheelchair users as it takes place on the facility's cycling track.

Once set up this is a sustainable voluntary organised event run by members of the community.
