Curious Theatre School Awarded Together Fund Grant

Curious Theatre School CIC have been awarded a grant of £10,000 from Sport England's Together Fund to support the Dance Your Way to Happiness project delivering dance and acrobatics sessions to young people.

The project is one of many across Lincolnshire benefitting from the Together Fund, which is being distributed in the county by Active Lincolnshire on behalf of Sport England. The fund exists to help to reduce the negative impact of coronavirus and support community groups and clubs working with our target audiences - whose activity levels have been most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic - to grow and enable more people to be more active.

Curious Theatre School CIC was set up in September 2019. They teach dance, drama, singing and acrobatics. The studio is situated in an area of high deprivation in Lincoln, with 60% of current attendees receiving free school meals.

The Dance Your Way to Happiness project will deliver dance and acrobatics sessions to children and young people from lower socio-economic backgrounds, who would normally find the cost of sessions a barrier to attendance, as well as support existing attendees who are struggling with the cost. The eight week project will culminate in a show at LPAC in Lincoln, where participants will be able to showcase what they have achieved to friends and family. A focus of the project will be on improving the mental health of participants and boosting their confidence.

Curious Theatre School commented

We have many participants with low self-esteem and believe performing their best work in front of an audience will raise their confidence and help them challenge some of their anxieties. Many of these children have nothing and believe they are nothing, but they are everything, with so much to offer the world and through this project we hope to help them see that!
