Active Lincolnshire invited partner organisations and stakeholders from across the county to come together for a one-day conference, Uniting the Movement in Lincolnshire.

As an Active Partnership, Active Lincolnshire coordinates the delivery of Sport England's Uniting the Movement strategy in Lincolnshire. This event provided a starting point for collaboration, conversations, and building understanding and trust.

The conference took place on Tuesday 21 September at Active Arena in Lincoln and left the audience inspired to get involved and help more people in Lincolnshire get more active, more often.

“The culture needs to change to get people active and [we need] to tackle those inequalities for the hard to reach groups”

At the end of the event, delegates were asked to discuss and answer some questions to gather insights and sentiment from the audience, with the aim to begin to understand the current opportunities and challenges amongst the community.

"The feedback gathered from our trusted partners at this event is really valuable for Active Lincolnshire and how we can help to inspire and facilitate a change to becoming an active county." Commented Emma Tatlow, CEO of Active Lincolnshire.

"As a charitable organisation working with the local Lincolnshire community, we aim to work together to inclusively change lives through physical activity, empowering people, places and communities to be more active, more often.

"It is important for us also to understand what our local businesses and organisations can do to help further support us on this journey and hear your voice."

The audience were asked three questions at the end of the event:

  • What interest you most about the 'Uniting the Movement' national strategy?
  • Where do you see the biggest opportunities to collectively make a difference in Lincolnshire, and what could you or your organisation do?
  • What are the barriers and challenges that the people in Lincolnshire you work with face?

The responses gathered at the 'Uniting the Movement in Lincolnshire' event have been collated into themes. This initial insights will be used and built on as we develop 'Let's Move Lincolnshire', the local strategy for supporting a more active county.

Creating active environments, connecting communities, engaging children & young people, enhancing facilities and provision, and connected health and wellbeing were among the key themes that were identified in response to the questions asked on the day.

Partner organisations and stakeholders want to make a difference across Lincolnshire through the power of networking and collaborating. Utilising community connections and people who are in contact with the target, inactive communities are seen as an opportunity to collectively make a difference and create environments that everyone can access things to do locally.

“Let’s get champions in the local areas to share the message about what is going on in their community”

Comments were made regarding the current facilities available, the inclusivity of activities across Lincolnshire and communication methods used to share encouraging information about getting active.

The development of the 'Let's Move Lincolnshire' strategy will build on this significant opportunity within the county to understand what it means to Unite the Movement and tackle the local challenge of inactivity and inequalities.
